  • SFJAZZ Gala

Last Friday night was the SFJAZZ Gala, one of my favorite photo gigs of the year. Joni Mitchell was the honoree and a wonderful gathering of musicians paid tribute to her by performing a few songs from her diverse body of work. Here's a few visual highlights from the concert:

Judith Hill was such a welcome surprise and such a powerful force. I've been meaning to check out the "20 Feet from Stardom" music documentary (in which she is featured) for quite some time. It's at the top of the list now!

Laurie Antonioli performed, "This Flight Tonight". What was truly mind-blowing was SFJAZZ High School All-Stars 2015 Education Award Winner, Kanoa Mendenhall, on stand-up bass. Keep her name close at hand... she's destined to be in the top music circles soon enough!

Patti Austin always delivers a high caliber performance!

Avishai Cohen gave a beautiful performance of, "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" alongside fellow SFJAZZ Collective members.

    Kelly Jones

Kris Kristofferson gave a touching, delicate performance of, "A Case of You".

All of the musicians joined Kelly Jones on stage for the closing tribute song, "You Turn Me On". Joe Jackson, the SFJAZZ Collective, Kris Kristofferson, Patti Austin, Laurie Antonioli...

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue gave an energetic performance at the after party, while Joni Mitchell looked on in approval.
